Valjakka & Vannesluoma

Valjakka & Vannesluoma's acoustic avant-garde music is characterized by deep listening, intuition and play.

Their newest project together, titled in French 'En Soufflant', refers to the duo's shared background as classical flutists. Premiering at the Turku Jazz Festival in March 2025, their new compositions draw from flute playing in use of breath, flute-like sounds and inventive textures in which two bright-voiced soloists challenge the traditional singer-accompanist constellation.

Juho Valjakka is a pianist and composer focused on jazz and improvised music. He is fascinated by the indeterminacy and possibilities of ambiguity in art. In addition to the Emma Award nominee Juho Valjakka Trio, he works with several top Finnish jazz ensembles, including UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra, Lassy–Eskola Nordic Stew and Riikka Keränen.

Josefiina Vannesluoma is a Turku-born singer and composer who has been nominated for no less than thrice for the "Jazz-Emma". Vannesluoma's interest lies in different musical cultures and interdisciplinary in arts. In addition to Mortal Lease, she leads the vocal ensemble Signe, which is formed by an exceptional instrumentation - four voices and a double bass. Vannesluoma's clear upper register can also be heard in the Mikko Sarvanne Garden ensemble, which won the Teosto Prize 2023.
